When Adéwalé plans additional slave trade raids, tensions within the Maroons rise. The local governor, Pierre de Fayet, plans a covert scientific expedition to collect geographic data, which they intend to offer to the highest bidder with all guarantees of naval superiority and to assess the curvature of the planet. While working for Bastienne, Adéwalé uncovers a conspiracy within the French provincial government in Port au Prince.
